Veteran Actress Anita Kanwal Slams Reports Claiming She Is Seeking Financial Help
Veteran actress Anita Kanwal, 72, has hit back at reports suggesting she is seeking financial help, alleging her six-month-old interview was misrepresented. Her Instagram video reveals why the coverage caused her severe distress.
In a video posted on Instagram, Kanwal addressed the reports and explained that her remarks had been taken out of context. She revealed that she had given the interview six months ago, during which she was asked how long she could manage her finances if she had no work in hand. She had responded that she could sustain herself financially for one to one-and-a-half years.
However, she alleged that this statement had been turned into sensational news stories suggesting that she was seeking financial assistance from the public.
Expressing her frustration, Kanwal said, “It is 3.45 am, and I cannot sleep because some news channels aired reports about me today that have left me extremely disturbed. In an interview six months ago, I was asked how long I could manage everything financially if I had no work. I answered one to one-and-a-half years. This is now being turned into sensational news suggesting that I am asking people for money. When Amitabh Bachchan went to Yash Chopra and said that he had no work and was struggling financially, nobody published such reports.”
Kanwal further clarified that her family was financially capable and maintained its dignity. She acknowledged that some investment decisions had gone wrong, adding that such mistakes could happen to anyone. However, she stressed that she was still capable of working and earning enough to secure her finances for the next 10 years through her professional work.
The actress said that her concern had been about the lack of work available to her, rather than an appeal for financial assistance. She also explained that the interview was six months old and that her circumstances had evolved since then. After the interview, she began creating reels on Instagram and gradually started receiving offers and collaboration opportunities.
Criticising the way the reports had portrayed her situation, Kanwal said, “You are writing as though I am begging people for money. This is completely wrong. If I do not even take money from my own children, why would I ask anyone else for it? Find even one person in the world who can say that Anita Kanwal owes them even one rupee or that I have asked anyone for money. I will change my name. Do not defame me like this at this age.”
Her remarks came after an earlier interview in which she had spoken about the challenges of finding work and her concerns regarding future financial planning. She had disclosed that she owned a house, which was an important financial asset in her life. Although she still had some savings, she said that her future expenses made it necessary for her to return to work.
Kanwal had also mentioned that her children were willing to support her financially, but she did not wish to depend on them for money. Her latest clarification emphasises that her earlier comments concerned financial planning and the need for professional opportunities, not a request for public donations.
The actress's response has brought renewed attention to her concerns about the availability of work for experienced performers and her objection to reports that, according to her, misrepresented her financial circumstances.
